A local stargazer trying the trail firsthand.
I was excited to see Colorado build a statewide stargazing trail, then found that some visitor links, program descriptions and practical details were difficult to use. This site is my attempt to make the trip I wanted to take easier for the next person.
What this site is
It is an independent visitor guide: the official 21 destinations, route ideas, worthwhile additions and a running field journal. The goal is a one-stop planning resource that gets more useful as more stops are visited.
What it is not
Independent visitor guide. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or published by the Colorado Tourism Office or DarkSky International. The route loops and extended stops on this site are my own planning framework.
How I label certainty
An official designation is not the same thing as a currently operating visitor program. I try to distinguish certified place, managing source, researched planning information and firsthand experience. If I have not attended a program, I do not write as though I have.
Why culture belongs in the foundation
The modern trail is new. Relationships between people, land and sky are not. The foundation essay explains why this guide recognizes Indigenous sky knowledge and the much wider human heritage of reading the night sky without turning that acknowledgment into repetitive branding.
Use the official trail too
