Kim / Southeast Colorado dark country

Remote southeastern Colorado can reach extraordinary darkness even though it is not built as a conventional tourism stop.

Why I added it

This is an enthusiast detour, not a casual attraction. Access, private property, roads, services and exact viewing location require more planning than a certified community or park.

How to use this stop

This is an independent addition, not an attempt to redraw the official trail. It belongs here because a road trip is more useful when it can acknowledge excellent night-sky places just outside the certification map.

Verify before driving at night

  • Legal parking and nighttime access.
  • Weather, road and seasonal closures.
  • Private-property boundaries.
  • Local fire, wildlife and land-management restrictions.
  • Whether a current public program actually exists before promising one to your group.
