The San Luis Valley rewards more than one night. I would plan this as a slow route with daylight landscape stops and separate nighttime decisions rather than racing between pins.

Build the trip around nights, not mileage
Do not assume every stop has a nightly program. Pick the nights that matter most, verify those experiences first, then let daytime driving and lodging connect them. Moon phase, smoke, clouds, winter roads and high-elevation weather can change what the best route looks like.
